Donovan, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on Stage together at Radio City Music Hall

  • The David
Lynch
Foundation,
of
which
Donovan
is
the
musical
wing,
has
put
together
an
 incredible
and
historic
 line
up
of
Donovan,
Paul
McCartney,
and
Ringo
 Starr,
together
 with
fellow
meditator,
Paul
Horn
(Jazz
flautist)
to
perform
at
a
fundraising
concert
to bring
Transcendental
 Meditation
to
 more
than
one
million
 students.

    The
concert
took
place
at
Radio
City
Music
Hall,
New
York
City
on
April
4th
2009.
As
 if
this
four
weren’t
enough
they
will
be
joined
by:
Eddie
 Vedder,
 Sheryl
 Crow,
 Moby, Bettye
La
Vette
and
Jim
James.
David
Lynch,
Russell
Simmons,
Laura
 Dern,
and
other surprise
guests
will
fill
out
the
star‐studded
slate
as
presenters.

    During
the
past
two
years
Donovan,
his
wife
Linda
and
David
Lynch
have
travelled
the world,
most
recently
Brazil, presenting
the
 meditation
technique
of
Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi
and
attracting
mass
media
attention.
The
technique
is
now
transforming
education and
 students
well being
wherever
it
has
been
introduced. It
was
in
1968
that Donovan,
The
Beatles,
Paul
Horn
and
other
 seekers
of
enlightenment went
to

India
to
study
with
their
teacher Maharishi.
On
his
return
Donovan
was
at
the forefront
in
promoting
meditation
 to
the
West.
    “
The
Beatles
and
 I
had
searched
for
a
 teacher
of
meditation,
as
we
knew
from
 our studies
of
the
books
that
this
was
the
way
truly
to
make
human kind
aware
of
what
we were
doing
to
each
other
and
to
bring
peace
to
the
world. We
found
Maharishi
and
he found
us”.

    David
Lynch
has
acknowledged
the
important
role
that
Donovan’s
example
gave
in bringing
him
to
meditation
39
years
ago.
Last
year
Donovan
encouraged
Moby
to
learn to
meditate. In
July
2005
 David
Lynch
created
the
David Lynch
Foundation
for
consciousness
based education
and
 world
peace
to
help
the
overwhelming
problems
faced
in schools throughout
the
world.
The
Foundation
has
made
 it
 possible
for
60,000
students
to benefit
from
this amazingly
successful
technique,
which
unfolds
the
full
potential
of students.

    Donovan,
Paul
McCartney,
Ringo
Starr
and
 friends
 will
perform
Donovan
and
McCartney songs
that
they
both
wrote during
that
historical
journey
to
India.
 Moby,
Sheryl
Crow, Eddie
Vedder, Ben Harper, Jimmy James and some students, will collaborate on some of an’s classic songs of meditation. The other artists will perform some of their own work.

“For Little Ones” remains my favourite LP close behind is “The Land Of Point” both always bring a tear, Dylan is also there, but not quite, especially after his last concert in Sydney where I thought I might pass from any future concerts. Going to see James Taylor & Carol King next Monday, I think they will take it a little more seriously than BD.

I had a great night in Hobart, Tasmania around 1975, Donavan was on his own with a guitar, I don't think many small people in the audience knew the words but I did. I enjoyed that night.
I hope Donovan makes a return trip to Aus. Sydney in my case and I hope he can understand the pure pleasure that can be had from sitting back opening a bottle of drinkable wine, turning down the lights and playing his music and, well thinking of things that happened a little time ago.

    Thank you Donovan

    regards

Love Donovan. My daughter does too. I heard about the Lynch offer a year ago and was ecstatic. My daughter (17) was thrilled. I contaced them. Turns out they won’t pay for individual kids, only for entire school systems that will agree to have all students trained. They turned me over to the TM Organization. They said my daughter could do it under their “student rate” which was very expensive but she was excited so I said ok. Turns out there’s another catch, if they’re 17 an adult has to do it with them–at the full price, which is extremely expensive. I couldn’t believe it.

No school in our part of the usa is going to go for this because of resistance from christian fundamentalists. I’d like to know if in the last year ANY SCHOOL ANYWHERE IN THE USA has gone for this–my bet is it would have to be an expensive artsy private school, the irony being IF YOU CAN SEND YOUR KID TO PRIVATE SCHOOL YOU COULD PAY FOR TM WITHOUT ANY HELP!
Donovan and McCartney have sincerity shining through them. But this offer is bogus. It’s the usual tm stuff–designed to seperate people from their money.
As I told them–I already know how to meditate, I’m a BUDDHIST! (karma kagyu); it was my daughter who was excited by this. but the offer isn’t real, it’s couched so that they will never have to pay off, or if so, very, very rarely.

Not blaming donovan for this–we still love him and his music.

The highlight of my concert experiences was when I saw Donovan in concert twice in Fairfield, Iowa while visiting my daughter, Samantha, who is a student at the Maharishi University of Management. Experiencing the energy of Fairfield and the pure intention of Donovan and David Lynch reminded me of the feeling I had as a young person experiencing the sound of Donovan and the Beatles over the loudspeaker as I skated at an outdoor rink after school in my Beatles sweatshirt and black stretch pants to match. It was so exhilarating and provided a glimpse into a state of bliss. I realize now the musical energy of Donovan and the Beatles at that time was taking us to a place where joy is no longer contained, but unlimited. It was a very pleasant surprise for me as a parent when I saw a photo of my daughter Samantha meditating at MUM being used on the promotional flier for the Radio City Fund Raising Event. There she was with Paul McCartney, Ringo, David Lynch, Russell Simmons and John Hagelin. Since that time the image used of Samantha meditating has been popping up all over the world we have learned from traveling friends. Samantha has blossomed in so many ways since learning TM and living, and studying, at MUM as a sustainability major. Thank you Donovan, for sharing your joyful spirit with the world!!!!!!!!!!!! It brought a great measure of happiness to me to experience your spirit in Fairfield and a greater understanding of what was really happening in the 60's. The energy I experienced through your music in my youth unbeknownst to me at the time was to influence the rest of my life of seeking.

I had no idea what you've been up to, Don. I regret that I've been out of touch with you for the last 23 years or so (since you last came to Houston, TX). What a wonderful mission! I'm so happy to see that there is a movement to bring blissful awareness to the children of the world.
